Empower Your ChildAnnecke RedelinghuysNov 17, 20162 min read Being a teenager in the 21st century, is a time of intense change and growth as teenagers try to decipher and appropriately react to conflicting messages and feelings from within themselves as well as from the world around them. They often feel lost in their attempts to connect to one another — and themselves on an emotional, creative and social level and very often the pressure of making the right choices for their “near adult” future lives and the responsibilities associated with their career choices can be simply overwhelming. Teenagers need to know their true value and potential and learn how to become the best version of themselves. However, if they don’t, their behaviour often revert to negative aspects such as self-harm, mental illnesses, increased suicide rates, anxiety, increased anger and conflict etc. During this time, they are also coming of age in a world where setting aside time to teach and foster healthy human connections, creativity and self-knowledge should be a high priority – although it isn’t. It is fundamental that our children have adequate self-knowledge and that they have a plan that is based on their understanding of their skills, passion and purpose. Life Coaching focuses on these aspects - on helping teenagers to develop their social skills and encouraging them to focus on identifying passions and goals and can also assist them to get through a particularly bumpy emotional patch. Through the process of Life Coaching, teenagers are empowered to change their lives for the better, as they learn that they can take responsibility and make the right choices for themselves. A need for immediacy has become an integrated part of the life of the modern teenager – they have a need for immediate response. Life coaching addresses this desire to feel better connected “in the now”. My coaching program helps teenagers to understandwho they are, where they are at,where they want to go,how to get thereand what may stand in their way. In summary: In a perplexed and often challenging world of physical and emotional changes and increasing pressure to “do something” with their lives, life coaching helps teenagers to get a clear future vision and a sense of direction and also give them the tools they need to live a balanced life. Together, we look at the different aspects of their lives and they identify where they want to improve and have a focused approach. Then we work on the structure of “how” and everything in-between until the goal has been successfully reached. They will be guided through actionable material with topics such asself-esteem,self-worth,confidence,beliefs,resilience,planning skills, decision makingand the high levels of pressure that teens experience. Not only is coaching a great model because it works, but also because of the images the words “life coach” evokes for a teenager: It creates the image of someone that is encouraging you, guiding you and cheering you on!And who amongst us would not benefit from a portion of that?...If you are interested in a conversation on how I can be of assistance to you, please contact me today!
